Verb Quiz on October 12, 2012

On Friday, we will have a short verb quiz.  The material that will be tested:

Verb tenses-present, past, and future.  Present tense verbs tell what the subject is doing in the present.  It may also have “s” on it to agree with the subject.  Past tense verbs tell what the subject has already done.  There is usually “ed” at the end.  In addition, some past tense verbs look different from their present tense form.  For example:  go (present), went (past).

Last but not least, future tense verbs tell what the subject is going to do.  Put the special verb, “will”, in front of the verb to show future tense.

The quiz will contain 10 multiple choice questions.  Good luck! I am sure the students will do fine.  We have been working on verbs all week. Have a great evening……

Boost(After School Tutoring)

Our second tutoring session took place Tuesday, October 9. We rotated around the room doing activities involving fact and opinion. We also practiced multiplication facts via xtramath.org.

The students had fun and they learned that a fact can be proven and an opinion cannot be proven. It is simply how we feel about something.

Edline Grades

Hello Parents! Thank you for returning the conference forms promptly.  I will send slips home next week to remind you of your conference time.  Most parents were able to get their 1st choice.

I am in the process of learning Edline, and I think I have it down to a science! At least I hope so.  I am still in the process of switching Social Studies and Science grades into Edline from my Excel spreadsheet.  Thank you for your patience.  I updated grades on Edline on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The Little Rock School District sent out information regarding reading and spelling grades.  Spelling grades have been entered in the reading gradebook, but they should have been entered in the language arts gradebook.   I will get this changed as soon as I can.  I will do another update, which should reflect the new grade in language arts and reading.

Again, I appreciate the patience as I learn a new grading system.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me at cicely.robinson@lrsd.org.

What are we doing?……….Week of October 8-12, 2012

You will find a copy of the reading focus wall below.  In addition, your child will receive a list of spelling and vocabulary words to bring home.  If your child misplaces the list, the focus wall will provide you with the spelling and vocabulary that will be studied this week.  Reading skills, as well as, grammar skills are included.  Don’t forget to sign your child’s agenda book after they have read the weekly story on Thursday night.

Dates to Remember

Parent Conferences are just around the corner! I am looking forward to sitting down with you to discuss the educational needs of your children.  Conference sign up sheets will be sent home on Monday, October 8.  Please choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice.  Conference times will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.  If you cannot schedule a conference for October 22, please email me @ cicely.robinson@lrsd.org and we will come up with a formidable solution.
October 19 will be a staff development/record day for teachers. Students will not come to school on this day.
